The 43nd International Holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Organization of Endowments and Charity Affairs in the Islamic Republic of Iran with reliance upon divine guidance and in pursuit of disseminating the teachings of the Holy Quran strengthening the unity of the Islamic Ummah and honoring distinguished reciters and memorizers of the Holy Quran from across the Islamic world will organize “the 43nd International Holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran” in January in the sacred city of Mashhad.

 

  • General Requirements for Participants:
  1. Possession of the required technical proficiency in the chosen category (preferably among the top winners of recognized and reputable national competitions of the nominating country).
  2. Holding the nationality and citizenship of the nominating country.
  3. Permanent residency in the nominating country (having resided permanently in the country of origin for at least one year prior to the competition).
  4. No previous attainment of first place in any previous editions of the International Holy Qur'an Competitions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  5. Age between 18 and 40 years. (For the Full Memorization of the Holy Qur'an category, the maximum age permitted for participation is 35 years.)
  6. Observance of official and dignified attire appropriate to the sanctity of the Holy Qur'an throughout all stages of the competition, whether in-person or virtual.

The competitions for women and men will be held separately in full accordance with Islamic regulations and guidelines.

 

  • Important Points:
  1. Each participant is permitted to compete in only one category.
  2. The nomination of a representative does not guarantee the final participation. Nominees will undergo evaluation, through various stages; therefore, it is strongly emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Irans representatives select capable individuals who can possibly meet all the conditions outlined in this invitation.
  3. Female participants are required to be accompanied by a Mahram (a male companion according to Islamic guidelines); Male participants are not permitted to have companions.
  4. Once the registration form has been completed and submitted, no changes to the selected category will be allowed by either the nominating country or the participant.
  5. The organizing institute of “The Islamic Republic of Iran Competition” will cover only the costs related to visa issuance, round-trip ticket, accommodation, and hospitality for the participants and during the competition period in Iran. All other personal expenses—such as miscellaneous hotel services, domestic travel within Iran, requests for flight changes regarding date or route, attendance at events outside the official competition framework, or any other related costs—shall be undertaken by the participant.

 

  1. Required Documents:
  • A three-minute video file of recitation (for the Tahqiq category) or Tartil (for the Tartil category) according to the announced parts.
  • A copy of the passports first page (with at least one year of validity);
  • A scanned personal photo (recent, high quality, and less than 500 KB in size);
  • The completed registration form, must be submitted no later than 22./09/ 2026 through the political and cultural representations of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • Submissions received after the mentioned deadline will not be considered.

1) Tahqiq Recitation Category

Participants in this category must select one of the following passages and record their recitation in a video, strictly observing the rules of Tajweed, proper pausing and starting (Waqf and Ibtida’), as well as voice and melody, in accordance with the Judging Regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran Competitions. The recording must then be sent through the official communication channels of the Competition Secretariat.

Passage 1: From verse 133 of Surah Al Imran ("وسارعوا.") to the end of verse 137. (" عاقبة المکذبین")

2) Tartil Recitation Category

Participants in this category must select one of the following passages and record their recitation in a video, strictly observing the rules of Tajweed, proper pausing and starting (Waqf and Ibtida), as well as voice and melody, based on the Judging Regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran Competitions. The video file must be submitted through the designated communication channels.

Passage 1: From verse 51 AL Maedeh of Surah (یا ایها الذین آمنو) to the end of verse57 ("ان کنتم مومنین")

**Specifications for the Submitted Video:

  1. a) A full self-introduction at the beginning (including full name, country, category, and narration style);
  2. b) Video recording using a mobile phone in horizontal (landscape) mode, with a maximum file size of 20 MB;
  3. c) Clear and high-quality audio (without the use of sound amplifiers, effects, echoes, or any editing).

 


       

3) Full Memorization Category

The screening stage for the Full Memorization category will be conducted virtually and live according to a predetermined schedule provided to each participant by the Competition Secretariat via video call. In this assessment, each candidate must respond in Tartil style to three twelve-line questions prepared by the judges (one question from every 10 Juz').

Note: This stage will be recorded by the Competition Secretariat. Participants who achieve the required minimum score will qualify for the Preliminary Stage (remote). Their recitation videos will then be evaluated and judged by the panel of judges.

Important Reminder: If a participant is found lacking in technical competence during the Preliminary Stage in any category, they will be disqualified from continuing in the competition.
