Press Statement Regarding the Recent Developments

The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mumbai wishes to present the following statement regarding the recent developments affecting the Islamic Republic of Iran:

1. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains firmly committed to de-escalation and indirect dialogue with the United States. However, these diplomatic efforts have regrettably been undermined by the military aggression initiated by the Zionist regime, followed by direct military strikes against Iran by the United States on the eve of the sixth round of indirect negotiations.
2. Even in the midst of an imposed conflict with the Zionist regime, Iran has upheld its dedication to diplomacy. Constructive engagements have continued with the E3 countries (Germany, France, and the United Kingdom) and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Moreover, Iran has actively participated in diplomatic consultations within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
3. The extent of damage resulting from the recent U.S. military aggression is currently under thorough assessment, and the findings will be made public in due course.
4. This unprecedented act—where two nuclear-armed states target a nation that neither possesses nuclear weapons nor has withdrawn from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)—demonstrates the failure of the international non-proliferation regime and highlights Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense.
5. The Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons and remains steadfast in its right to pursue the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This position is transparent, consistent, and verified by international monitoring mechanisms.
6. There exists no credible confirmation of any active nuclear weapons program in Iran. Therefore, the recent aggressions lack any legal or international legitimacy and constitute clear violations of international law.
7. The U.S. President and his national security team, by committing this grave mistake, have demonstrated a profound misunderstanding of the sensitive realities of the Middle East and West Asian region and have underestimated Iran's defense capabilities. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains resolute in its determination to defend itself and ensure that the Zionist regime regrets its unlawful actions.
8. S. President Donald Trump, through his direct acts of aggression and open support for the Zionist regime’s hostilities, has unequivocally revealed himself as a ‘war president,’ responsible for the escalation of tensions in the region.
9. These illegal aggressions have only strengthened the solidarity of the Iranian people with the Islamic Republic and its institutions. History has shown that military intervention against Iran results not in division but in greater national unity around the flag of the Islamic Republic.
10. The Islamic Republic of Iran calls upon all responsible nations to fulfill their legal obligations under the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the principle prohibiting the use of force, and to unequivocally condemn the unlawful attacks against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
11. Upholding international law and deterring illegal and aggressive actions are essential for maintaining global stability. The Islamic Republic underscores the importance of accountability for violators of international norms and stresses the necessity of imposing tangible costs on states that pursue unlawful aggression.
12. Calls for Iran’s restraint, while its people and territorial integrity have been subjected to aggression, are neither logical nor morally defensible. Instead, the international community must direct its pressure towards the aggressors, who bear full responsibility for the escalation.
13. The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the Government of the United States fully accountable for the uncertain and dangerous consequences arising from its aggressive and unlawful actions, as well as those of the Zionist regime.
